I finally got to take my mom, dad, and grams to see Kung Fu Panda 2!

It still feels so strange to see something you've been working on for years all packaged up and presented to the world. So many emotions are wrapped up into it, and I can't tell you how different it was to sit and watch it with my parents, as opposed to the many other screenings I've had. I think it's because they've supported me to the fullest during my three years on the project, and there's something so fulfilling in finally getting to see their reactions.

I want nothing more than to make them proud and I think I did. I have a long way to go in my career but it means so much to be able to share it with them. Being the first in my family to be able to contribute our namesake onto the big screen, I know that the younger generations in my family will be able to do so much more in their lifetime, and for their own parents. (My cousins, nieces and nephews are already so much more intelligent than I was at that age and they are going to do amazing things. And I mean really amazing things. I see inventors, doctors, athletes and musicians in our midst.)
My siblings and I are the first born of our family in this country and my brothers are already so successful and I look up to them as my heroes. I think in a way we are all centering what we do on our parents' happiness, because they sacrificed so much to make us happy. (In addition to our older cousins, uncles, aunts, and grandparents. Their own stories of success are mind-blowing, and I can only hope to mimic their talent and goodwill someday.)
Oh, and I just about died with joy when I overheard my dad exclaim to my mom, "I'm gonna tell my friends at work to go and watch it but only the end (meaning the credits)."

Of course they loved the entire film but to have my father see not only his first name but his father's first name in those credits is something that I had waited so long to see. And just in time for Father's Day!

My Dizzy Trip to The Met, NYC

On my recent trip to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, I realized two things:

1. New York City is indeed huge.
2. Never plan a museum visit on your 9th day in New York City.

By then I was so worn out that I had to be pushed around by my boyfriend in a WHEELCHAIR in order to view the artwork.

Mr. Boyfriend, probably in a state of shock at my insistence on a wheelchair.

At one point I begged him to leave me in a corner in the great atrium facing the windows, so that I could rest. After much back and forth (he takes very good care of me you know), he finally gave me a break to take a look at some exhibits unreachable by elevator and I just snoozed like a happy little newborn.

To avoid any stranger contact and conversation, I popped on my sunglasses. I must have looked absolutely psychotic. Nonetheless, the most creatively inspiring trip to date.

I was in need of new spectacles recently and I stumbled upon a quaint little shop that not only sells the most amazing, unique, VINTAGE frames you'd ever want, they also supply the TV show MAD MEN with glasses. Three words: Thank. You. YELP.

Part one of project motivation to write: going to overpriced coffee shops to force myself to be, well, productive. The hell of it all though is that this goddamn place doesn't have any power outlets around. It's smart really, so they don't end up with a grip of schoolkids hogging the tables for hours on end with their sticker-covered apple notebooks, energy drinks (purchased elsewhere) and crumpled *CalTech/USC hoodies. It's true. *And I don't even know if there are CalTech hoodies but you know what I'm saying.

Anyway, in a completely distracting moment, I realized that the barista gave me a spoon with my chai latte because it's thick enough to "eat." Now that's wild.

Best moment of the day: eating my coffee.
Worst: Being at 22% battery life when I'm in the middle of a fucking chai latte breakfast and thoughts streaming out of me like children running out to recess.

Cherry On Top

My roomie and I frequent this place called CHERRY ON TOP a lot, out in Pasadena. It's like Pinkberry's more generous Uncle on Christmas morning. You get to choose from a host of toppings yourself, and you don't have to deal with awkward staff asking you if you want any more toppings. (Yes, I do!) And note to the wise: try not to get their punch cards mixed up with Pinkberry. 'Cause I did, and things got really uncomfortable for a minute.


You can't see it but I added in a generous squeeze of red velvet yogurt. And honey. Honey is really good on frozen yogurt.

Funky little cherry chairs and a nice big screen to watch basketball, if that's your thing.

Wednesday morning freeway fun (The Biggest Loser)

You can't see the logo very well (on the trunk hatch) but these cars are for "The Biggest Loser." I felt kinda like a loser taking photos of them instead of watching the road but traffic is boring so thank the lord for ugly cars. More importantly, wtf are they gonna do with them?
